Comprehensive Guide: How to Transfer a Domain Out to Another Registrar (Transfer Out)

Domain Transfers

Domain transfer out is the standard procedure for moving the administrative maintenance and registration of your domain name from your current registrar to another hosting provider or domain registrar.

Important General Rules & ICANN Guidelines

  1. Domain Age: A transfer cannot be initiated if 60 days have not elapsed since the domain's initial registration or its previous registrar transfer.
  2. Expiration Date: It is recommended to initiate a transfer at least 2 weeks prior to the domain's expiration date, as the standard transfer process typically takes between 5 to 7 business days to complete.
  3. Contact Information: Ensure that the administrative contact email associated with your account is valid and accessible, as it will be required for security verification steps.

Step 1. Navigate to the Domain List

To begin the process, log in to your control panel, locate the My Services section on the top navigation bar, and select Manage Domains.

This will direct you to the domain management page displaying a comprehensive list of all active domains within your account.

Step 2. Unlock the Domain

Before requesting an authorization code, you must remove the security lock protecting the domain against unauthorized transfers. You can accomplish this using one of two convenient methods:

Method 1. Using Quick Action Buttons in the Table View

Locate your target domain in the main list and click the lock icon in the action column to toggle the status from LOCKED to an unlocked state.

Once unlocked, click on the authorization code request button located in the same row.

Method 2. Via the Domain Details View

Step 3. Identity Verification and Retrieving the Auth / EPP Code

Regardless of the chosen option (A or B), security protocols require you to verify your identity before the code is revealed.

Enter the 6-digit verification code sent to the primary email address linked to your account, then click the verification button.

Upon successful verification, a modal window will display your domain’s unique secret code (Auth Code / EPP Code). You can highlight and copy it manually or click the Copy button to save it directly to your clipboard.

Step 4. Initiating the Transfer at the New Registrar

Navigate to the platform of your new registrar where you intend to transfer the domain. Locate their domain transfer form, input your domain name, paste the retrieved Auth / EPP Code, and complete their checkout process to initialize the transfer request.

Step 5. Monitoring and Approving (or Declining) the Transfer

Once the transfer has been initiated on the external platform, you can monitor and manage its status through our system using one of two methods:

Method 1. Via the Centralized Pending Transfers Menu

You can manage all outgoing transfers globally by navigating to My Services -> Pending Transfers. This section provides a centralized list of all domains currently undergoing an outgoing transfer, complete with direct Approve Transfer and Decline Transfer action buttons for each entry.

Method 2. Via the Domain Details View

Alternatively, you can return to our platform and view the specific domain details page. The status will reflect as Outgoing Transfer Pending (pendingTransfer). From here, you can choose to click Approve Transfer to release the domain immediately and finalize the transfer out, or click Decline Transfer if you did not authorize the request.

Note: If no manual action is taken, the registry will automatically approve and complete the transfer after a standard waiting period elapses.
